Dear Kim: When Should I Get The Flu Shot?

Dear Kim,

I heard that the 2021-2022 flu season is likely to be worse than last year’s, so I want to get the flu shot at the right time. When should I get the flu shot, and what will it cost me?

Thanks,

Seeking Flu Protection

Dear Seeking,

It’s great that you’re being so proactive about protecting yourself against the flu!

You’re right – per the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, many experts are saying that the 2021-2022 flu season will be worse than usual. This means it’s more important than ever to get a flu vaccine – and it’s always important.

The CDC is recommending that most people 6 months and older get their flu vaccine as soon as possible. September and October are the ideal time to get the vaccine. You can get vaccinated against the flu at your doctor’s office, or for free at most pharmacies or your local health department.

Wondering if you can get the COVID-19 vaccine in the same visit as your flu vaccine? The CDC says that yes, you can! If you are still unsure what vaccines you should get and when, give your primary care doctor a call and they can give you recommendations based on your personal situation

Be safe,
