Dear Kim: Can I get the Monkeypox Vaccine?

Dear Kim,

I heard that the monkeypox vaccine eligibility guidelines were updated this week, and want to know if I can get one. What are the requirements?

Thanks,

Playing It Safe

Dear Safe,

It can be tough to keep up with the always-changing information on Monkeypox, so it’s great you asked.

First things first: if you currently have symptoms, vaccination is NOT recommended.

So here’s the new info: as of today, August 1, 2022, you must meet ALL of the following criteria to receive the monkeypox vaccine:

You are Connecticut Resident 18 years of age or older;

AND

You have multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days;

AND

You are a gay, bisexual, or other man who has sex with men (MSM), and/or transgender, gender non-conforming, or gender non-binary.

Please note that vaccines are in short supply and will be prioritized for those referred to us by their local Health Department or the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH).

The Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective has a limited supply of the vaccine, so if you want to know if you’re eligible to get one at our clinic, call us at 860-278-4163.

Stay safe out there, and be well, be yourself.

Kim
