Prepayment
During especially busy times of year we may require all patients prepay. If you are unable to afford the fee, please let us know as we will work with you to ensure you are able to get the treatment or testing you need.
Cancellation Fee and Prepayment
If you miss an appointment, you will be required to pre-pay for all future visits, as well as the cost of your missed appointment, at our discretion.
Please make sure to cancel or change your appointment at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment time unless you are sick and advised by an HGLHC clinic staff member to cancel (in which case there will be no cancellation/change fee).
What If I Test Positive?
If you test positive for HIV or an STI, a staff member from the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective will call you to let you know. We will be able to provide treatment and/or referrals for care, and will help you access the services you need to stay healthy.
It’s also important to let your recent partners know if you’ve tested positive for an STI so they, too, can get tested and treated. Learn more about partner notification in Connecticut with this video:
Remember: if you miss an appointment you are taking away an appointment slot from someone else who may desperately need it. Help others and help our community – do not miss appointments without cancelling in advance!
Get PrEP
We can help you get PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) to prevent HIV!
There are currently three medications that have been approved in the US for PrEP: Truvada, Descovy, and Apretude.
If you do not have health insurance, or have high co-pays, there are a number of options to help you get and stay on the PrEP medication.

If you have had a very recent exposure to HIV (< 72 hours) you should call your primary care doctor, or go the Emergency Department or Urgent Care for PEP (also called nPEP) – medication that will prevent you from becoming infected. Time is of the essence in these situations.
FREE Condoms and Safer-Sex Supplies
PrEP and U=U (undetectable = untransmittable) reduce the risk of contracting HIV from unprotected sex, but STDs keep hitting records levels year after year.
“New” STDs like Mycoplasma genitalium (“Mgen”) are also being seen more often.

Condoms help protect against most STDs and HIV.
We also strongly recommend getting the Gardasil vaccine to prevent throat, penis, anus and cervical cancer.
MPowerment
MPowerment is a social and educational group for men who love men ages 18-35. Meet other gay and bi guys, learn about sexual health, and plan fun social activities.
We’ve been running MPowerment at HGLHC since 2008.
We generally meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 7pm. Email kima@hglhc.org for more info.
Safety and Confidentiality
While Mpowerment isn’t a support group, we want to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable.
Meetings are confidential, and we ask that you don’t come to an event or meeting with high, drunk, or have drugs, alcohol or weapons, and that you don’t record meetings or take pictures of anyone without their consent.
